This year marks the tenth anniversary that Toy Story “Bash Car 15” hits the open road for 2019 Variety VIC Bash.
In that time Discus Print & Signage founding Directors Peter Benjamin (Woody) and Carl Mendelawitz (Buzz), along with their sidekick Alan Cormack (Alien), have raised $115,000 for sick and disadvantaged children across Australia.
Peter, who is a grandfather of 9, says Variety provides important support for children and their families when government assistance isn’t available.
“Variety provides individuals and organisations with equipment that improves the quality of life for thousands of children with special needs. Items such as wheelchairs, communications devices, prosthetic limbs and Liberty Swings are granted by Variety.”
Peter says that events such as the Variety Bash are so important as the children’s charity relies on donations from the community.
“It’s through the generosity of the community that Variety are able to provide important support for children and their families and the Variety Bash provides a great means for raising money for this incredibly worthy cause.”
The 1974 Mercedes 280SE has done some kilometres and seen some sights in that time – and this year’s Variety VIC Bash promises to be just as rewarding and memorable.
Starting in Melbourne on the 20th August, Bash Car 15 will be finishing in Geraldton, stopping along the way in Madura, Kalgoorlie, Leonora and Mt Magnet.
It’s a 10 day journey where Peter, Carl and Alan will get to meet children from the local communities and witness first-hand the funds being utilised.
Carl says that charity donates to schools and community groups they visit along the way.
“It’s a great experience meeting people in each town and seeing how the donations have a real impact on the children and their community. This year’s event is extra significant for us as we will be visiting several WA towns who also benefit from the injection of money being spent from the event in the way of accommodation, fuel and food,” says Carl.
In past years Toy Story Bash Car 15 has been the only WA entrant, and it’s believed they are the only WA team again for 2019.
Their goal is to raise over $15,000 for the 2019 Variety VIC Bash.
Woody, Buzz and Alien need your help!
“We welcome donations big and small – from organisations and individuals – every little bit helps make a difference,” says Peter.
